I'm tired. Lotta driving.
SMAAAAAAAAAAAAll gas tank! Filled up before I left; filled up again in Vallejo; filled up again in Madera. Staying over in Fresno with Goddaughter's parents. These people know me and my history, so it's good for me to stop feeling the responsibilities of running the gallery and my life in Mendocino and relax into the loving home my old friends, the Kramers, who knew me when!
I was WhimsyWalls. I wore red from tip to toe. BJ Kramer just gave me some bright red Levis. My mind went flying back to the me I was prior to 9/11. You'll have to get the book for the rest of the story!
What I discovered today on my first day of driving, is that
1. Mendocino is farther from anywhere than anywhere else;
2. Gas has gone UP in price!
3. I'm starting to relax, the farther away from home I get.
4. I realize what a big load I've been carrying;
5. the rv, CoCo, is presenting its own set of weights, starting with the "box" battery dying the minute I turned off the motor after arriving safely in Fresno. Good thing Dan Kramer can troubleshoot and fix anything, especially pinball machines and Hudsons.
Driving was easy in the rv; the bungee system I set up worked beautifully; there were no close calls, no problems on the road, except lots of potholes, on the eastern Carquinez Bridge and down 680. I found 580 in pretty good shape. I remember it when. My dad always pointed out the railroad tracks and crossing over the track, and then about 1/4 mile later, going under the arch trestle, same track.
I left the sun behind in Vallejo and had high overcast the rest of the way with fog in Fresno. It's fun. I like the idea of going somewhere and taking an incredible amount of stuff with me! Art, music, gifts, food, tools, got it all! Pictures to follow!

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to pics! Which one is the 'box' battery? And drive carefully! We saw a bad accident on Caspar Bridge driving up to see 'True Grit' - Marc and I wound up directing traffic for a while.
It sounds like this trip is already inspiring a lot of reflection and insight. Take time to breathe deeply, exhale slowly, and enjoy every single mile along the way. Will look forward to pics and the next post.
